An homage to sports at David Koma’s spring/summer 2013 show, where conventional tennis apparel was stripped bare, twisted, turned and brought back to its roots – resulting in a collection of simple, crisp and clean dresses, inspired by the colours of the 1960s and the silhouettes of the 1920s.
Fringed dresses, skirts and shawls, high waisted hotpants or knee-length skirts topped with revealing brassieres, dresses with split sides, ripples and glitters, all against a canvas of metallics, pastels and neons – the first thought that sprang to mind at Mark Fast’s spring/summer 2013 show was if we all just had travelled three decades back in time, and had wondrously ended up at a glamorous hooker convention, thoughts which were emphasised by the sounds of opening theme Salt N Pepa’s “Push It”.
Dans La Vie’s bright and elegant fall collection gave the impression that 1960s American pop art had an exciting encounter with the simplistic silhouette of the 1940s: vibrant prints, as eccentric as electric, were found on oh so feminine cuts, figure-hugging dresses and clinched in waists. The result? Fine, neo pop fashion.
Aminaka Wilmon’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection at London Fashion Week
Aminaka Wilmont’s Spring/Summer 2012 catwalk show at London Fashion Week featured a collection of serene, soft floral prints in dove grey, powder blue and ivory, now and then bravely interspersed by fully see-through chiffon shirt dresses, and no-nonsense angular statement pieces that wouldn’t look out of place in an adult version of Doctor Who – Aminaka Wilmont gave the definition of delicate an innovative edge.
The collection bordered the futuristic in its choice of cuts, while hinting to a calm, earthly essence in its colour palette and print – carefully cut out panels flashing skin, tight, one-piece florals leaving one leg daringly bare and chiffon trains attached to skirts and reaching the floor, against a background of fifty shades of light greys and baby blues.
